A Time To Gather
Today I have gathered with cousins, aunts, uncles, friends and aquaintances at a family funeral. Sadly, the last time I saw most of these same people was at a previous funeral several years ago.
In the midst of sadness at the loss of a loved one, there is the pleasure of sharing memories and catching up with the lives of these people that I had grown up with for so many years in a small rural community. It brought many smiles to listen to various stories of our childhood or look at old photos of our parents from a time we could not have been a part of.
Our time together was so brief. We parted with warm handshakes and hugs. E-mails were exchanged and hopes for a happier gathering were expressed among us. Our wish to meet again without the cloud of family loss is sincere. Today we said goodbye to a loved one and hopefully renewed relationships from days gone by.
